Where is linear regression used?

Linear regression has many practical use cases, and most of them fall into one of the following two broad kinds:

• If the goal is either a prediction or forecasting, it can be used to build a predictive model to a recognized dataset of dependent and independent values
• If the goal is to determine the strength of a relationship between the target and predictor variables, it can be applied to quantify the change in Y for a given value of X
