An Archimesh kitchen island
The Archimesh add-on creates an additional menu for a variety of architectural presets, with parameters that can be adjusted at creation. Create a new scene for our kitchen island. This island will include cabinets and drawers on the side facing the stove, seating space on the other side, and a marble counter with a recessed sink.
Here is how we will create the Archimesh island:
- Add a cabinet by going to Add | Mesh | Archimesh | Cabinet or on the N Properties Archimesh panel. As with other new objects, a creation panel lets you change settings when the cabinets are added.
- Change the number of cabinets to 2 and note that each cabinet gets its own settings you can play with.
- Change the door of a cabinet to L so that the two meet in the center, set the cabinet width to .5, and turn off Countertop Fill.
- An Archimesh cabinet comes with some basic rigging and materials and after creation, you can right-click on the parent mesh in the outliner and select Hierarchy, allowing you to edit the various meshes at once:
The settings for our Archimesh cabinets
- Create additional cabinets for the drawers, an open cabinet for the end cap of the island, and a clear mesh for fine china. Move and snap them around in the Top view to fit the island's 1.5 x 6 rough dimensions.
- Archimesh creates individual baseboards for each individual cabinet. Select these, join them into one object with Ctrl + J, and simplify unnecessary divisions in Edit Mode.
- In this iterative workflow, space is left for a future dishwasher mesh, the hole for the sink can be added later, and any number of future set dressings (such as flowers, a bowl of fruit, and so on) await this kitchen island. I quickly modeled a cube into a .1m rim above the cabinets and created a single countertop that spans the whole island, using a Bevel modifier on the edges.
- Finally, put everything in a collection called Island, save the scene, and link it to the kitchen scene, as before.
Our example island turned out like this:

Archimesh is a fantastic add-on for creating cabinets and cupboards quickly. Explore some of the other set dressings it can add to the kitchen; then, let's move on to creating the kitchen sink.
