What do they mean?

break（使）碎裂verb（過去式broke，過去分詞broken）；暫停；休息noun

用作不及物動詞時，break表示“某物因意外碎成兩半或更多碎片”；用作及物動詞時，表示“使某物碎成兩半或更多碎片”；用作名詞時，指“暫停手上事情的那段時間”。

• The rope that Paul was swinging on suddenly broke and he fell to the ground.
