Abstract
The United Nations Sustainable Development Summit held in September 2015 adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and also confirmed Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)which contains 17 goals and 169 associated targets. SDGs based on 5P pillar(People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership)has officially taken the place of Millennium Development Goals(MDGs)built up in United Nations Millennium Declaration which mainly focused on poverty alleviation in developing countries. The new agenda provides guidance to national development and international development cooperation in the next 15 years.
This book first makes a review of the historical process, significant stage and landmark events of global sustainable development, and analyzes the characteristics of the new sustainable development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. It also assesses and evaluates the goals and targets built up in the SDGs and the key areas and makes a comprehensive summary of the situation and trend of the global sustainable development. Then the book demonstrates the concept and practice of transformative development based on global vision and also from the perspective of China. Given the difficulties we face in sustainable development under the pattern of industrial civilization, it further discusses the transforming of the sustainable development governance system to the pattern of ecological civilization, and looks at the financial difficulties, institutional dilemmas, market failure, technological limitations and demographic challenges of global sustainable development. The achievements and experience in the practice of sustainable development in China is also introduced. In addition, different orientations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a transformative agenda is analyzed, the path and prospects of achieving global sustainable development before 2030 are also discussed and the great significance of transforming to the pattern of ecological civilization for achieving sustainability is highlighted in this book.
